Representatives of the tyre and vehicle industry, as well as trustees of the new product stewardship organisation Auto Stewardship New Zealand and Tyrewise project managers, 3R Group, met with the Hon. Amy Adams and Ministry staff in Wellington this week.
The meeting was to discuss recommendations for the recovery and disposal of end of life tyres (ELTs) put forward by the Tyrewise Working Group last month and provided an opportunity for the Minister to direct questions to the industry about the proposed product stewardship scheme.
“The working group has spent 18 months consulting widely with the tyre and vehicle industry, local government and other stakeholders on the best model for a product stewardship programme for ELTs,” says Mark Gilbert, Chair of the working group.
“We were pleased to have the opportunity to discuss our recommendations with the Minister and to demonstrate that the industry is ready for a stewardship programme for end of life tyres.”
