Tyrewise has been in the news recently with Radio New Zealand National’s Nine to Noon programme featuring a segment discussing a proposed regulated product stewardship scheme for tyres.
A panel, featuring Tyrewise project manager Adele Rose (3R Group CEO), Associate Director Bridgestone New Zealand John Staples and New Zealand Product Stewardship Council co-ordinator Hannah Blumhart, talked about the benefits of such a scheme and readiness of industry to kick it off.
They discussed the recent announcement by Associate Minister for the Environment Eugenie Sage of a consultation period ahead of the proposed deceleration of tyres as a priority product under the Waste Minimisation Act 2008. Five other products also being consulted on for possible declaration are electrical and electronic products, agrichemicals and their containers, refrigerants and other synthetic greenhouse gases, farm plastics, and packaging.
