Pressure is mounting on Hamiltons MPs to lead action on used tyres, with community leaders saying central government needs to show leadership over the vexed issue.
Community debate over how to store and dispose of the tyres has raged since 150,000 tyres were abandoned at a Frankton depot, then removed at a cost of $260,000 to Hamilton city ratepayers.
Hamilton City Council’s elected members have voiced their frustration over the tyre debacle and many local leaders are turning their attention to central government to take a lead on the issue.
