REDISA, the Recycling and Economic Development Initiative South Africa, which operates a product stewardship programme for end of life tyres, will celebrate its first anniversary this Friday, 23 May.
In its first eleven months (final year end figures are not yet available), REDISA has provided a solution for 19,563 tonnes of tyre waste, and over 1600 tyre dealers have registered to have waste tyres removed at no cost from their premises, representing 97% of all retailers nationally.
During 2014, REDISA expects that more than 1,500 jobs will be created through the REDISA plan, with this rising to 10,000 by 2017.
